Gravel’s End  Residence
Mystic, Connecticut

The renovated house occupies a narrow corner lot in the Mystic historic district. The Landscape Architect was tasked with creating as much useful space as possible while providing privacy and views of the Mystic harbor.  A formal approach to landscape design allowed for small garden rooms strongly related to interior spaces.  Plantings of evergreens like box, ilex, and thuja provide structure while floriferous perennials fill the garden beds.  Unique specimen trees – stewartia, magnolia virginiana – and distinctive shrubs like clethra, viburnum and native azalea give the garden seasonal interest.
