Groton Parks & Rec Master Plan

Groton’s Recreation and Parks department has operated for over twenty years without a guiding master plan. The distinguished and award-winning department finally acquired funding for the study in 2008. Kent + Frost and Norris Design of Denver, Colorado were selected from a short list of national experts to prepare the Plan. The Groton planning process represents the cutting edge of recreation planning in the United States. Kent + Frost provided detailed local knowledge of existing sites and facilities and is author of the Plan’s Facilities Inventory and Conditional Assessment. Norris Design has combined its expertise in recreation planning with Geographic Information System analysis to create Level of Service Maps that illustrate the geographic strengths and weaknesses of the existing system. As an extension of the system plan, the two firms have collaborated on development of a master plan for Groton’s Sutton Community Park.
