Ocean Beach Interpretive Trail
New London, Connecticut
Funded by a Connecticut DEP LIS grant, municipal funds and private contributions, this coastal access project has contributed to New London’s successful renewal of its long neglected beachfront park. Beginning at the southern tip of the existing boardwalk, a 400-foot long handicap accessible stone dust trail winds through mounded plantings of native grasses, Bayberry, Beach Plum and Rugosa Rose. A handicapped accessible elevated platform rises eight feet to reveal a striking panorama of Long Island Sound, Alewife Cove and Harkness State Park.
